About St. Augustine
Monarch Air Group offers private jet charter services to and from St. Augustine.
Located on Florida’s east coast, St. Augustine is the oldest European settlement in the United States. The area was first explored in 1513 by Spanish explorer and conquistador Juan Ponce de Leon. St. Augustine was established in 1565 by Spanish admiral and explorer Pedro Menendez de Aviles.
St. Augustine is a popular destination for leisure travelers with a variety of attractions for all ages. St. Augustine’s white sand beaches are a top destination for leisure travelers seeking the warmth of Florida’s year-round sunshine. Visitors can tour the fort and grounds of Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, the oldest masonry fort in the continental U.S. The fortress was constructed in 1672 to help guard the settlement of San Agustin and hold the colony of La Florida for Spain. After a day exploring the fortress grounds, a sunset boat tour is a relaxing way to enjoy St. Augustine from the water as you pass by landmarks, including the Bridge of Lions and the Augustine Lighthouse. As you pass by the bridge, look for the marble lions that guard the bridge’s entrance on the St. Augustine side.
The history of the picturesque St. Augustine lighthouse dates to 1589 when a wooden watchtower stood on the site during the construction of Castillo de San Marcos. Centuries later, the St. Augustine lighthouse was lit on October 15, 1874. Another popular attraction is Ponce De Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park. At the park, you can see the legendary Fountain of Youth sought after by Juan Ponce de Leon. The source of the water flowing from the “fountain” is the Floridian aquifer, a natural aquifer found beneath most of northern Florida. According to the museum, the water contains over 30 minerals and was drawn from the spring to replenish the Spanish explorers’ crew. More than 500 years later, visitors are drawn to the aquifer to sip the water from the Fountain of Youth.
Northeast Florida Regional Airport (SGJ) is four miles north of St. Augustine. Empty legs and transient aircraft are extremely popular in the region.
