About Bhutan

Bhutan is an incredibly atmospheric and mysterious country in the heart of the Eastern Himalayas, with a population of about 800,000 people. For many years the country was isolated from the outside world, now it is a favorite destination for many travelers, here in excellent condition are preserved ancient forests and unique species of plants and animals, as well as wild landscapes. There are also many monasteries in Bhutan, and part of the country is visited by followers of Buddhism to feel the atmosphere of holiness and mystery. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan, in the forest valley, it is also the only capital in the world without traffic lights, where there are no buildings of glass and concrete. Also in the capital, visitors can find the Royal School of Arts, the National Textile Museum, the Thangka School of Art, and many other cultural institutions. Thimphu is also home to the only golf course in the country. Close to the market area is the Changlimithang National Stadium, the main venue for the national sport of archery.

Beginning their journey in Bhutan, tourists can visit Taktsang Lakkhang, a highly unusual Buddhist temple, with which thousands of legends and myths are associated, on the side of a cliff. The monastery is located in a remote mountainous area and became available to pilgrims and tourists recently.

The city of Paro at an altitude of almost 3 thousand meters above sea level is also an interesting place to visit, it is known for the buildings of ancient architecture from different centuries. Paro Valley is one of the most populated areas in the country and also the center of the western part of the country inhabited by people of Nepalese origin. The pretty lively town of Tashigang, lying in the very east of the country, is the center of Bhutan’s largest province. Also the province of Lhentse, famous for its dense forests, weavers, and the best fabrics in the country.

There are four active airports in Bhutan, with Paro International Airport (PBH, VQPR) being the best for private charter flights. The airport is conveniently located a few miles from the center of Paro and has an asphalt runway, which is the only one in the country.
